How did Sam Smith lose weight?
Sam Smith aka Samuel Frederick Smith was born on 19th May 1992. He is an English singer and songwriter. He got fame in October 2012 when released his first single “Latch”. It held the eleventh position on the UK singles chart. The song “La la la” from Naughty boy earned his first ‘Number One Single’ in 2013 May. He was nominated for 2014 Brit Critics’ Choice Award and the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll and he won both.

His debut album “In the Lonely Hour” was released in May 2014. Smith was nominated for Grammy Awards in 2014 and the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in 2015. He has received three Billboard Awards, Top Male Artist, Top New Artist, and Top Radio Song Artist. He has also been mentioned twice in the Guinness World Records for his musical achievements.
Sam was born and raised in London to his father Frederick Smith and mother Kate Cassidy, who is a broker. Smith had been in jazz bands before entering the musical theatre. He studied singing and songwriting for a number of years under jazz pianist Joanna Eden. He went to St Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford. (1)

Sam has always battled with his weight. From an early age he developed a fondness for food and as a result, he put on quite a few pounds. He says, “I was a very big teenager, Massive, actually. Well, no massive but big.” Sam was very flabby and chubby since his school times. His love for food was overwhelming. Everything sweet and junk and processed made his mouth watered for it. Due to his unhealthy habits, he gained a huge amount of weight. (2)
He accepts that emotional eating was a big part of his weight gain. He says, “When I was at school and wasn’t having a great time or when music was not going very well. I would eat, eat as eating would make me feel better when I felt lonely I would eat.”

Criticism for his Weight and Body Shaming
Though Sam has noticeably slimmed down, the Grammy winner fought with his weight battle and it still affects him today. He had been criticized for his weight publically. Sam gets candid over how much jabs at his weight gain have hurt him.
He says, “If someone called me fat, that affects me. I think just because I have accepted that I am gay, and it’s okay for me to call me that. There is no issue calling me gay. But if someone calls you fat, that’s something you want to change.
The famous, Howard Stern called Sam ‘fat’ and ‘ugly’. It was a really harsh criticism to swallow.
He says a big part of him being overweight was his loneliness.

What Inspired him for Weight Loss?
About his weight loss inspiration, Sam talks about a woman on how she helped him all through his weight loss journey. He wrote in a deleted Instagram caption, “I met a woman who has completely changed my life.” He talked about the UK based nutritional therapist Amelia Freer for helping him shed his extra pounds.
According to sources, he said, “Amelia Freer has helped me to lose over a stone in few weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food. Everyone must check out her incredible book, and start to live healthily. It’s not about weight loss but it’s about feeling happy in yourself. Love you Amelia and thank you for making me feel so happy inside out.”
He also accepted the fact that his dad basically became the fitness trainer to help him out for a weight loss plan. Sam took courses and started to train him and also taught him how to eat better. He said, “I’m always going to have issues with my weight.
We did loads of running. All the stuff you hate, he tried to make me do. He took out all the fizzy drinks, all of the chocolate, all the bad foods in the house, which was unfair on my two sisters because they have different body type than me.”
Sam Smith Weight Loss Diet Plan

The book consists of a 10-day meal plan for losing weight which includes the recipes of a healthy diet.
It also includes the cutting out of sugar, sugary liquids, aerated drinks, unhealthy fats, processed foods etc. He started taking more fiber, gluten-free diet and good protein in his diet. He even cut out eating pork. Whenever he wanted to snack he bit on herbs infused ice cubes. Sam followed the routine and lost 14 pounds in 14 days. Isn’t that amazing!!

Sam added some weight training exercises like dumbbell clean press, incline press, farmers walk, sandbag hangs clean, Goblet squat in his routine. He also started doing yoga for weight loss.
Portraying his new transformed image, Sam is slaying all over the nation and in his new music videos. Here’s what he has to say about it, “it’s completely different. I think it comes with me losing weight. When I was shooting my first music video, I just wasn’t happy with the way I looked, so I was trying to control the way the camera moved. I got a bit obsessive. I was constantly looking into the mirror, pinching my waist and weighing myself every day.”
After losing the weight he says, “Now I’ve gotten to a place where I really love my body and the stretch marks on it. My job is very self-indulging; I’m actually asking myself if I’m going to be writing some happy love songs soon.”
