John was brought up in Affton, Missouri. Leslie Francis Goodman, his father, was a postal worker. He died when John was just 2 years old. Virginia Roos, his mother, was a waitress and did several other works to support her family. John has a sister named Elizabeth and a brother, Leslie.
Goodman attended Affton High School, he was a football player. He graduated in 1970 and earned a football scholarship to Missouri State University. He has done his graduation in Fine Arts.
His football career ended with an injury and it was the first time when Goodman thought of becoming an actor. In 1975, he left Missouri and went to New York City. He is best known for his role as the football coach for Adams College in the film Revenge of the Nerds.

Goodman was also starred in the movie The Flintstones as Fred Flintstone.
John married Annabeth Hartzog in 1989. They have a daughter, Molly Evangeline Goodman who works as a production assistant in the industry.

When the weight scale hit 400 pounds, he understood that his weight was no longer a laughing matter and he needs to make a change now. He decided to give up on alcohol first saying, “It was the answer for a lot of problems.”
Goodman has lost more than 100 pounds now. His motivation is still very simple: “It takes a lot of energy to sit on your ass and figure out what you are going to eat next, I wanted to live a better life.” He says that he started feeling guilty of himself. He closely looked in the mirror and saw himself as the fat man and at the very moment, he decided that he will work on himself now.

John Goodman’s Diet Plan
John Goodman says, “It was basically the portion control for me. I did not want to lose weight as such but yeah, I wanted to be fit and healthy and it’s an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”
Goodman’s weight loss was achieved gradually with a “Mediterranean-style eating plan.”
He focused mainly on eating fish, vegetables, olive oil, avocados, nuts and foods high in unsaturated fats, salads, spinach, celery, fruits, and other veggies. John later revealed that he also drank Apple Cider Vinegar every single day which added to his weight loss journey.

John Goodman’s Exercise Routine
Goodman mainly focused on performing cardio exercises and walking for 10000 to 12000 steps every day. John’s sedentary lifestyle made him gain a huge amount of weight and he knew that he needed to change his habits(1).
He found a trainer for him and he planned a workout schedule. His workout planned mainly included cardio in it(2). The trainer had him doing 40 minutes of cardio in the day and 40 minutes in the night, a total of 80 minutes of cardio was planned for him per day.

John Goodman’s drastic weight loss transformation is surely a motivation for all of us, especially when it comes to the age factor. John really did work hard for shredding those fats from his body and become healthier.
He says, “I was in pretty bad shape when I left Roseanne, I had lots of resentment. I just did not care. It was a terrible character fault of mine. I always wanted more of something. There was this emptiness inside me. I still have it, but I know what it is now. You need to recognize it and then you let it go. You don’t have to fill it with another pork or drink.”
